From digital to sculpture – new artists explore and create: the result for the viewer is truly engaging. We decided to interview some of these talented artists to get to know them better, to have their point of view and to be involved in their stories and professional paths. Today we meet Vera Vera, a very interesting artist who creates works of art between beauty and new media. Vera Vera is explosive, a hurricane of enthusiasm but with her feet firmly on the ground, like someone who has many dreams but already thinks about how to make them come true. Her works are of great impact and very communicative.

The interview with Vera Vera

• What prompted you to undertake your career as an artist?

Instinct. And too many questions.

• What is making art for you today?

Have a purpose: try to understand more; Try to communicate better. I think that’s the only reason I’m convinced I have sense.

• Is art research and experimentation?

Art is communication, towards others or towards oneself. We make art because we need to say something but words don’t communicate enough. Yes, art is research and experimentation .. Fear and transformation .. Art is a lot of questions more than anything else! I think that art born when there are opposites in a person. As if we had poles: positive and negative, maybe when those poles help each other something can born !?

• What are the materials you use to create your works? And which ones would you like to experience tomorrow?

To date I have experimented a lot with ceramics, painting .. I’m using mirrors and metals now. In tomorrow I would like to experience anything. We must allow ourselves to be contaminated by everything.

• Is Art a vehicle of messages? Is there a message behind your works?

Of course yes! But I can’t tell you!

• How did you experience the lockdown?

I created a 60 cm Covid where I stamped more than 400 words letter by letter that the instagram audience suggested to me, other than eat.

what are your future projects?

I would like to see my works a little bigger in some square of the world. And then travel making art, talking to people, exhibitions .. to know I want to know

• What are your thoughts on the emerging art market in Italy today?

Next one.

• How much does digital influence your artistic creation or your communication as an Artist?

Very very much. Today we live a good part of our time there, don’t we? By now online communication is part of us… I’m trying to investigate the sphere of online relationships. It is incredible to see the differences in the real world.

• Can you tell us about a work to which you are particularly attached?

It is called 10 Cents. It took me 1 year and a half before creating it (I call this period “gestation”: you have it in mind and it doesn’t go away). And it was a mistake! Only later I did know it couldn’t be done. It is the three-dimensional representation of the bust of Botticelli’s Venus with her face completely covered with 10-cent coins (Italian, with the exact same Venus on the coins).

It is important because Venus is the icon of Beauty and beauty is in some way extremely linked to a person’s luck (money), isn’t it? Those who are born with the good fortune of being beautiful today can find more easily work and the possibility of climbing the ladder of society .. Is it Terrible right? The fact is that my father is a doctor of aesthetic medicine so from an early age I have always seen him ‘embellish’ many faces, modifying even those who should not have been modified but this is another story, let’s go on..

• Between sculpture and online communication: where does this meeting come from?

The #tellmewords process was born after two bad experiences I lived on social media: In the first one, knowing and idealizing an artist on Instagram. It’s impossible to avoid idealizing people in this world.. After 8 months I knew him in real world and a disaster happened but let’s leave it out. In the second case, I met a man on FB who pretended to be another person, he even managed to steal some money from me.

#Tellmewords is a process where I come into contact with many entities that I am not sure are true or false. I wonder who those words are from, what the person on the other side of the screen really wants to tell me, what is the true identity of those who communicate with me. I rewrite everything that comes to me regardless of the language or its meaning. I want to lend my hand to people to modify the work, I want it to be them too. Then I am ‘terrified’ of external judgments for that I decided to have them write about my works.

• Writing in your artistic production: what is its value?

At a certain point the words create a texture and camouflage the work, they become a filter, a mask .. as if to conceal what is underneath. This is interesting..

Oggi vi invitiamo a conoscere Vera Vera, un’artista molto interessante che crea opere d’Arte tra bellezza e nuovi media. Vera Vera è esplosiva, un uragano di entusiasmo ma con i piedi ben fissi a terra, come chi ha tanti sogni ma già pensa a come realizzarli. Le sue opere sono di grande impatto e molto comunicative.

• Cosa ti ha spinto ad intraprendere il tuo percorso di artista?

L’istinto. E troppe domande.

• Cos’è per te fare Arte oggi?

Avere uno scopo: cercare di capire di più; Cercare di comunicare meglio. Credo che sia l’unico motivo per cui mi convinco di avere senso.

• L’arte è ricerca e sperimentazione?

L’arte è comunicazione, verso gli altri o verso se stessi. Facciamo arte perché abbiamo bisogno di dire qualcosa ma le parole non comunicano abbastanza.
Si l’arte è ricerca e sperimentazione.. Paura e trasformazione.. L’arte è molte domande più che altro!
Penso che l’arte nasca quando in una persona ci sono dei contrari.
Come se avessimo dei poli: positivi e negativi, forse quando quei poli si aiutano a vicenda nasce qualcosa!?

• Quali sono i materiali che utilizzi per creare le tue opere? E quali vorresti sperimentare domani?

Ad oggi ho sperimentato parecchio la ceramica, la pittura.. sto utilizzando specchi e metalli ora. Nel domani vorrei sperimentare qualsiasi cosa. Bisogna lasciarsi contaminare da tutto.

• L’Arte è un veicolo di messaggi? C’è un messaggio dietro le tue opere?

Certo che si! Ma non posso dirlo!

• Come hai vissuto il lockdown?

Ho creato un Covid di 60 cm dove ho impresso lettera per lettera più di 400 parole che mi ha suggerito il pubblico di instagram, oltre che mangiare.

  • Quali sono i tuoi progetti futuri?

Mi piacerebbe vedere le mie opere un po’ più grandi in qualche piazza del mondo. E poi viaggiare facendo arte, parlare con le persone, mostre.. conoscere voglio conoscere

• Quali sono le tue riflessioni sul mercato dell’arte emergente oggi in Italia?

Passo.

• Quanto influisce il digitale nella tua creazione artistica o nella tua comunicazione come Artista?

Moltissimo. Oggi viviamo buona parte del nostro tempo li no? Ormai la comunicazione online è parte di noi… Sto cercando di indagare proprio la sfera delle relazioni online. E’incredibile vedere poi le differenze nel mondo reale.

• Ci racconti un’opera a cui sei particolarmente legata?

Si chiama 10 Centesimi. Ci ho messo 1 anno e mezzo prima di crearla (io chiamo questo periodo “gestazione”: ce l’hai in mente e non va via). E pensare che è stato un’errore! Solo dopo ho saputo che non si poteva fare. E’ la rappresentazione tridimensionale del busto della Venere del Botticelli col viso completamente coperto con monete da 10 centesimi (italiane, con la stessa identica Venere sulle monete).

E’ importante perché la Venere è l’icona della Bellezza e la bellezza in qualche maniera è estremamente legata alla fortuna (denaro) di una persona no? Chi nasce con la fortuna di essere bello oggi trova più facilmente lavoro e possibilità di scalare i gradini della società.. Terribile vero? Fatto sta che mio padre è un dottore di medicina estetica quindi fin da piccola l’ho sempre visto ‘abbellire’ molte facce, modificando anche chi non doveva essere modificato ma questa è un’altra storia, andiamo avanti.

• Tra scultura e comunicazione online: da dove nasce questo incontro?

Il processo #tellmewords è nato dopo due brutte esperienze che ho vissuto sui Social: Nella prima conoscendo e idealizzando un artista su instagram. E’ impossibile evitare di idealizzare le persone in questo mondo. Dopo 8 mesi l’ho conosciuto davvero ed è successo un disastro ma tralasciamo.
Nel secondo caso ho conosciuto un uomo su Fb che si spacciava per un’altra persona, è riuscito anche a rubarmi dei soldi.

#Tellmewords è un processo in cui io entro in contatto con molte entità che non ho la certezza siano vere o false. Mi chiedo di chi sono quelle parole, cosa vuole dirmi veramente la persona che sta dall’altra parte dello schermo, qual’è la vera identità di chi comunica con me. Io riscrivo tutto quello che mi arriva indipendentemente dalla lingua o il suo significato. Voglio prestare la mia mano alle persone per modificare l’opera, voglio che sia anche loro. Poi sono ‘terrorizzata’ dai giudizi esterni per quello ho deciso di farli scrivere sulle mie opere.

• La scrittura nella tua produzione artistica: qual’è la sua valenza?

Le parole ad un certo punto creano una texture e camuffano l’opera, diventano un filtro, una maschera.. come a celare quello che sta sotto. Questo è interessante..
